The Reason for the Season: Keeping Our Eyes on Jesus as a Family
Every year, the holiday season arrives with Christmas lights, busy calendars, and endless to do lists. Gifts to buy, meals to make, photos to take, traditions to uphold, plans to organize... it all comes at us quickly. And while these things can be beautiful blessings, they can also become distractions from the One who is the true center of Christmas, Jesus.
This year, more than ever, our hearts need the reminder that Christmas is not about perfection, performance, or pressure.
It’s about presence, God’s presence with us, in us, and through us as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.
As families, as husbands and wives, as parents raising little hearts to know the Lord, we have a beautiful opportunity to refocus our homes on the only thing that truly matters, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.
Jesus at the Center of Our Homes
The story of Christmas begins with a humble manger, a faithful couple, and a miraculous child.
It is a story of obedience, trust, and sacrificial love... three things our marriages and families desperately need.
When we bring Christ into the center of our home, everything shifts,
Our marriage becomes less about winning and more about serving
Our parenting becomes less about perfection and more about grace
Our family rhythms become less about busyness and more about belonging
Our hearts become less overwhelmed by the world and more anchored in Him
Jesus brings peace when schedules feel chaotic, unity when communication feels strained, and joy when life feels heavy. He is the peacekeeper, the miracle worker, the steady foundation for our relationships.
Inviting Jesus Into Our Marriage
Christmas is a beautiful time to reconnect with your spouse, spiritually, emotionally, and intentionally.
Take a moment this season to pray together. Share what God is teaching you. Lay down expectations. Ask Him to strengthen weak places... heal tender places... and deepen your love for one another.
Because the truth is,
A Christ centered marriage becomes a Christ centered home.
And that is one of the greatest gifts you can give your children.
Pointing Our Children to Jesus
Children experience Christmas with wide eyed wonder, and we get to guide that wonder straight to the heart of the Father.
Whether it’s through reading the Nativity story, praying together before bed, doing a kindness countdown, or simply talking about why Jesus came... every moment is a seed planted.
Let them see that Christmas is not just about receiving gifts, but about receiving the Gift, God’s love wrapped in swaddling clothes.
Let them see you worship, serve, forgive, and give thanks.
Children learn the true meaning of Christmas by watching how their parents live it.
Slowing Down to See Jesus Clearly
If we’re not careful, December can rush by in a blur.
But when we intentionally slow down, we make room for the Holy Spirit to speak, lead, and refresh us.
This season, choose,
Presence over presents
Connection over comparison
Purpose over perfection
Jesus over everything else
The lights may twinkle, but He is the Light of the World.
The gifts may thrill, but He is the Greatest Gift.
The gatherings may fill our homes, but He is the One who fills our hearts.
A Season to Remember What Truly Matters
So as you walk through this Christmas season, with your spouse, with your children, with your family, may your home be marked by a deeper awareness of God’s presence.
May your traditions point to Him.
May your conversations honor Him.
May your hearts rest in Him.
And may your family look back and say,
"This was the year we slowed down, refocused, and remembered that Jesus truly is the reason for the season."
Because when we keep our eyes on Him, everything else falls into its rightful place.
Wishing you a Christmas rooted in peace, filled with joy, and anchored in the love of our Savior...
From our home to yours, may Jesus be the center of your season and the foundation of your family.
