Raising Little Hearts to Know the Word

Why Teaching Scripture to Our Children Matters

There is something sacred about watching a child learn who God is. Their eyes light up when they hear that Jesus loves them, their little voices whisper prayers that feel bigger than the room they’re in, their hearts soak up truth like thirsty soil, ready to grow what we water.

And in a world full of loud voices, endless notifications, and ever-changing beliefs, our children need something solid, something eternal. Not just good morals, not just positive thinking, not just “being kind.”

They need God’s Word.

The world can teach confidence, success, and self-expression, but it cannot teach our children how to live for Jesus. Culture can offer trends, but it cannot offer truth. Friends can give advice, but they cannot give eternal hope. Entertainment can shape habits, but it cannot shape hearts for Heaven.

That’s our privilege as parents.

Teaching our children Scripture does more than help them behave, it shapes who they are becoming in Christ. It prepares their hearts for the temptations they’ll face and the questions they’ll someday ask. It teaches them where to run when they’re hurt, who to trust when they’re confused, how to respond when they fail, and what to stand on when life feels shaky.

When we place God’s Word before our children, we are:

Planting roots that won’t wither, giving wisdom they’ll carry into adulthood, guarding their hearts long before they’re tested, pointing them toward a Savior who never changes

Maybe your child is still learning to read, maybe they’re still learning to share or listen or be brave, maybe you feel unsure about teaching the Bible perfectly.

You don’t have to be perfect, you just have to be faithful.

Read a verse at breakfast, pray together before bed, talk about Scripture when life happens, when they’re scared, when they’re tempted, when they’re joyful. Show them, moment by moment, that God’s Word isn’t just for Sunday, it’s for everything.

Because every verse planted today becomes a foundation tomorrow.

As parents, we aren’t just raising children, we’re raising disciples, we’re shaping hearts for eternity, we’re guiding future men and women who will know truth, love deeply, and live boldly for Jesus.

And that starts with the Word.

May our homes be filled with Scripture, may our children hear it, see it, love it, and live it, may God use us, imperfect parents relying on His perfect grace, to point little hearts to Him.

🌿 Let’s build homes rooted in Scripture, one verse at a time.
